USEFUL FOR:

Distinguishing between primary and metastatic neoplasms in theliver, in tissue biopsy specimens, or cytologic preparations.

SPECIMEN REQUIRED:

Formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissue block or Glass "positivelycharged" slides with formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissue orFormalin-fixed tissue.Note:    1. A pathology/diagnostic report and a brief history are                  required for processing.                  2.  Please complete a "Pathology/Cytology In Situ                       Request Form" (Supply T246) or a "MayoConnect Additional                        Test Information" form (Supply T357) and forward it with the                        specimen.

CLINICAL INFORMATION:

Albumin is produced by normal and neoplastic liver cells. Well-differentiated hepatocellular carcinomas contain abundant albumin mRNA. Poorly-differentiated hepatocellular carcinomas contain smallamounts of albumin mRNA only. Normal liver cells contain abundant albumin mRNA.

CLINICAL INTERPRETATION:

A positive reaction results in blue cytoplasmic staining intissue sections.
All results are interpreted by a pathologist as part of asurgical pathology consultation.

REFERENCE VALUES:

An interpretive report will be provided.
